IN-possible Talk

The exhibition IN-possible. Before an idea is brought to life describes the work behind an industrial design product, the transformation of an “in-possibility” into a “possibility”. The exhibition is accompanied by a meeting entitled IN-possible Talk in which professionals of different fields describe an experience, a project or a vision of an “impossibility” that was unsuccessful in the short term but that, in reality, laid the foundation for a subsequent innovation. The IN-possible Talk will be follow by a cocktail.

Moderator:

Richard Thommeret : Chemical engineer by training and former researcher in polymeric materials, he is currently working as the Innovation Communication Director for the Solvay Group. Moreover, Richard Thommeret is active as a Professor of Polymer Technology in the industrial design and interior architecture master at ENSAV-La Cambre, as an international lecturer and author of the book Plastiques et Design (Ed. Eyrolles). 

Speakers:

Giovanna Massoni: Born in Milan (°1962), living and working in Brussels, Giovanna Massoni is an art and design independent consultant and curator. Since 2006, she collaborates with Belgian federal institutions for the organization, communication and curatorship of collective exhibitions during the Milan Design Week under the label Belgium is Design. Since 2011, she has been the artistic director of RECIPROCITY design Liège, the International Triennial of Design for Social Innovation in Liège (BE). She’s actually member of the Collegium of Lille Métropole World Design Capital 2020. She’s been writing for a number of international design magazines and exhibition catalogues.

Jacinthe Mazzocchetti: Jacinthe Mazzocchetti is a Professor at the University of Louvain, where she teaches political anthropology, anthropology of migration and anthropology of the family and sexuality. Her research work focuses on the recognition process, mainly of the youth, in the context of globalization and the Africa-Europe migration, with a focus on EU policies on migration and asylum, institutional practices and their effects on trajectories and migration experiences.

Jan de Moffarts: Jan de Moffarts (°1980) studied architecture at Ghent University and the Faculdade Arquitectura in Porto, followed by a specialization in urban planning at the KU Leuven. As project manager for Origin Architecture & Engineering, he supervised the renovation of the modernist  residential tower Ieder Zijn Huis by Willy Van der Meeren and also the Rectorate Buidling of the VUB in Ixelles by Renaat Braem. With the Gare Maritime project on the Tour & Taxis site, he made his own practice independent in 2016 : Jan de Moffarts Architecten (JDMA) is a Brussels based office for architecture with a focus on restoration and reconversion of valuable heritage.

Walter Vandervelde: Walter Vandervelde is a professor, author, speaker and trainer in business creativity. Graduated as a Master in Visual Arts and Communication, he started his career in 1988 as a graphic designer and copywriter and later on became a creative director and communication expert for international B-to-B companies and organizations. With 25 years of expertise in applied creativity, he decided in 2013 to focus on teaching and stimulating creativity within organizations. Besides these training and consulting activities, he is also a pioneer professor 'Idea & Innovation Management' at the Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel. In 2018, he published the book ‘When the Box is the Limit’, about how constraints can drive creativity.
